New Online Training Course Helps Construction Professionals Tackle Energy Codes

WASHINGTON (February 3, 2011)—The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) has developed a free, online training course designed to help construction professionals stay up to speed on the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code® (IECC). The course—Understanding the 2009 IECC Energy Code, Advanced Efficiency Programs, and their Implications for Propane—is available at www.propanetrainingacademy.com and is approved by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and American Institute of Architects (AIA).

"A growing number of states are adopting the IECC, which is required for projects that receive federal stimulus funds and, as a result, there is an increased demand for construction professional training," said Tracy Burleson, director of residential programs for PERC. "This new online training course helps constructional professionals tackle the daunting task of keeping up to date on codes in order to best design and build code-compliant homes."

The course addresses the primary sections in the IECC, the national energy code that is adopted by states and local jurisdictions. Special emphasis is given to sections of the code that impact propane in new single-family construction along with steps to ensure construction projects are compliant. The course also describes minimum efficiency requirements for propane-fired residential equipment and identifies opportunities for the cost-effective use of higher-efficiency systems. Additionally, course participants are introduced to green building codes and standards, including the U.S. Green Building Councils' Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and the NAHB National Green Building Program.
