New standards will go into effect in 2015.

New efficiency standards for residential storage water heaters and gas and propane tankless water heaters, issued by the Department of Energy back in April 2010, will go into effect in April 2015. Supply House Times takes an in-depth look at how the new standards will affect pros, noting that propane-fueled tankless water heaters can help homeowners reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions. In short, the report says, "the DOE mandate means that manufacturers cannot produce or sell lower-efficient water heaters after April 15, 2015."
