Learn and Earn
From PERC, a for-credit course and three "Meet the Expert" sessions at IBS.
The International Builders' Show (IBS) has many facets. It's a wonderful networking event, a great way to see new products, and an excellent means of learning, whether through seminars or hands-on coursework.
Tom Jaenicke, an NAHB-Certified Green Professional, will be presenting a number of propane training opportunities at this year's show. On Thurs., Jan. 13, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. (West 311 A-B), he'll be teaching a for-credit course, Custom Outdoor Innovations with Gas. With this course you'll learn about key features of residential gas supply options for an outdoor room and become familiar with the use of propane and natural gas in residential outdoor applications. In addition, he'll compare and contrast emissions of commonly used residential energy sources, and review several outdoor residential uses for propane or natural gas.
Jaenicke will also be conducting three "Meet the Expert" sessions at the Custom Builder IBS Pavilion (West 309 A-B). Each session lasts a half-hour and will be a roundtable-style discussion of these topics:
Specifying Standby Generations: Installation and Value Considerations (Wed., Jan. 12, from 3 to 3:30 p.m.
A Comparative Analysis of Residential Heating Systems (Thurs., Jan. 13, from 9:30 to 10 a.m.)
Residential Water Heating: An Energy, Environmental, and Economic Analysis (Fri., Jan. 14, from 9:30 to 10 a.m.)
The topics for these sessions are also for-credit courses that are offered free on the Propane Training Academy.
"For the outdoor course, I expect to have a representative from an outdoor gas lighting company with me," says Jaenicke. "Not many builders know a lot about this area so he'll be there to help answer any questions that might be specific to outdoor lighting."
As for his "Meet the Expert" sessions, "it will be a roundtable discussion that will give builders a way to benchmark and communicate with their peers."
