Optimizing hot water systems with condensing boilers

Improvements in modern boiler technology require changes in the way you design hot water systems.

Consulting-Specifying Engineer offers an in-depth lesson on hydronic water heating systems using condensing boilers, which can run on propane or natural gas. "Boiler selection and traditional hot water systems have been designed to maintain high hot water temperatures, but changes in boiler technology allow efficiency gains to be achieved by using lower water temperatures and condensing boilers," the magazine reports. The article recommends considering condensing boilers for in-floor radiant heating systems, water source heat pumps, and standard hot water systems specifically designed with lower hot water supply temperatures.
